Today’s date is the day that many people now regard as a public holiday, people from all over the world are cracking out one of their favorite dvd box sets in celebration of a day which has now been adopted by fans all over as Star Wars Day! This unofficial holiday only came about because of the popularity of a commonly spoken phrase on this day each and every year. Since the phrase “May the Force be with you” is a world-famous quote often spoken in the Star Wars films, fans have now started to say “May the fourth be with you” on this date.
So Happy Star Wars Day Everybody!!!
Now some of you may be thinking as cool as this is! what relevance has this go to do with a website that covers poi, fire spinning, circus skills and other types of movement? well first of all, have you actually seen star wars, Darth Maul is obviously into his staff manipulation in fact if you watch any of the fight scenes they all seem to be spinning their light sabers around the same way we spin are flow toys about, and even more to the point minus the psychic abilities is not the force pretty much the same thing as what we consider to be the flow.
Don’t get me wrong it could just be myself and others watched far too much star wars when we were all kids ( i don’t know how but maybe ), How i see it is that flow is an energy which surrounds everyone and everything, it does not fight against the world but instead goes with it, take water for example its above us, below us and even inside of us, it has the ability to give life and take it away, its soft but yet it can be hard and have the power to move mountains in its path, The Force, The Flow and in general life are all about balance and the power inside all things i,e us, yin & yang, good & evil, heaven & hell, love & hate what ever the case you can not have one without the other…
This is something i think each and everyone of us should acknowledge and take a moment to think about each time before they are about to spin and/or perform, by getting in to that Jedi mind-set ( did you like what i did there! ) and just going with the flow/force of life and letting whats going to be simply be, one becomes at ease with one’s self and ones surroundings and even becomes at ease with the rest of the universe too.
Now I’m not saying that just by going for it you gonna be amazing over night because obviously technique plays a big part in flowology, but life’s about the journey rather than the destination it’s just one giant learning curve so with plenty of practice in your chosen field you will notice certain techniques just become second nature to you and the tools which you use, in my case my poi become an extension of the body and rather than having to concentrate on a specific technique i can now just close my eyes and feel the movement something that really shows of in my performances and will with your as well.
Anyways that’s it for this post just thought i would write a little something for the occasion, now i suggest you guys do as i do and get out your toys have a spin and watch some star wars and remember…………………………………
